As we get ready for our Thanksgiving dinner it is time to remember that there is much we can do to help others.
A wise woman who was traveling in the mountains found a precious stone in a stream. The next day she met another traveler who was hungry, and the wise woman opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveler saw the precious stone and asked the woman to give it to him. She did so without hesitation. The traveler left, rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime. But a few days later he came back to return the stone to the wise woman.
"I've been thinking," he said, "I know how valuable the stone is, but I give it back in the hope that you can give me something even more precious. Give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me the stone."

Funny how some never see the gift within themselves while some never recognize it in others. I often wonder how we can all be so different seeing that we share a planet with each other and many common interests.
ReplyDeleteAfter living in Seattle, my awareness of homelessness was heightened as they are prevalent in all neighborhoods. It is so difficult to imagine another human being living in such conditions. Although we have different incomes and struggle financially at some time in our life, we must always remember how fortunate we are to have our basic human needs met.
ReplyDeleteI feel that it is very important to realize that sometimes things are difficult, and although things sometimes may not be at there best it can always be worst.
